TERRA NOVA'S GOT TALENT
The Talent Show is coming soon! This year’s show will be on Friday, March 5, at 7pm (doors open at 6pm) and is being planned and hosted by the Journalism Class. The event is a fundraiser for the Terra Nova Times and will showcase TN’s superior talent. Student auditions will be the week of February 22rd (times/dates TBD), and rehearsals will be the week of March 5. There will also be a bake sale and pizza, so come and bring the whole family. Last year’s show sold out, so be sure to buy your tickets in advance. They will be on sale the week of Feb 22 from any journalism student, as well as available at the door.
JEFFERSON ADULT COURSES
Jefferson Union High School District’s Community Education courses for adults begin the first week of February. These classes in art, music, sewing, theater, ceramics, woodskills, digital photography and Spanish offer adults an enriching opportunity to learn and practice skills in a pleasant environment with highly-qualified instructors. We welcome students at all levels of expertise, beginning through advanced. Classes meet two or three hours once a week, and the cost for a six week session is between $25 and $45. A complete list of our courses, locations, schedules and prices is on the Adult Education website. PET PHOTO CONTEST
Serramonte center is hosting another pet photo contest on the wall in front of the old Mervyn’s store to benefit the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA! Enter your pet’s photo now through the 28th of this month per the attached flyer and your pet will be displayed on the wall. Vote for your favorite pet(s) in the month of March. For every vote received, Serramonte will donate $1.00 to the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA.
FREE PARENT EMPOWERMENT WORKSHOP FEBRUARY 23RD
Project Success presents a free workshop, "Teens, Drugs, and the Law” to be held Tuesday February 23rd from 6:30-8:30pm at the JUHSD Galleria Room, 699 Serramonte Blvd., Daly City, CA. Dinner will be served starting at 6:00pm. Gather with other parents to hear presentations made by the police departments of Daly City and Pacifica discussing teens, drugs, and laws around the issue as well as prevention efforts. Presentation to be followed by a panel discussion composed of prents, police, and probation officers who have experiences and guidance to share. Babysitting and translation services available upon request.

JUNIOR PROM MARCH 26TH
Attention Parents and Students! The Class of 2011 will be hosting this year’s Junior Prom, “Starry Night,” on March 26 from 6:30pm-11pm at the South San Francisco Conference Center. Tickets will be $70 each with a special pre-sale offer of $68. Stay tuned for ticket sale information. RECENT CHANGES TO 2009-10 SCHOOL YEAR
As a result of the most recent contract negotiations, the Jefferson Union High School District Board of Trustees approved a reduction of four instructional days from the current 2009-10 school year calendar. The last day of this school year will be Friday, May, 29, 1010. While this will have little impact on most of the activities already planned, it will impact the date of graduation. The new date of graduation is Thursday, May 27th.

The National Center for Disease Control and Prevention has alerted all schools to the likelihood of increased cases of influenza in the fall and into the winter. Of course, the major concern is the H1N1 (Swine Flu) virus and prevention strategies to decrease the likely spread of this virus. ONLINE TUTORING SERVICE
A FREE live tutoring service is available for all students through the San Mateo County Library website. It is live tutoring online in English, Math, Science or Social Studies and available from 1:00pm to 12:00am seven days a week (It is available in Spanish from 1pm-10pm). Live Homework Help is staffed by trained tutors, many of whom are retired teachers. To access this service you must do the following:
